Palm Springs Meiselman Reborn

A Mid-Century Tract Home Renovation

Kitchen

I'll just say a few things. First, these photos are way too flattering. Everything looks much cleaner that it really is. The walls are not intentionally yellow, that's 40 years of dirt, grease and nicotine. And everything is way too sticky for comfort. Also, note the Jim Bob plumb job. At some point the hot water line was cut and this was their ingenious solution. The water line runs around the corner of the house, into the guest bath, through - right through - the kitchen, into the master bath. All exposed.

They must have been smoking another pipe when they put that shit in. Look at it. Unfreakingbelieveable.

At least the cabinets look half decent. (Ok for a MN'tan they do since that is all we have here really).

Just have to say that it all looks like to much fun!

i've worked in kitchens that had the water source above the stove to fill the stock pots, but this is ridiculous.

Ah, Nicole - there in lies the rub. Yes, in MN these might make the cut (as long as they were properly disinfected), but this in a 1950's hipster weekender pad. Paneled cabinets don't really work in this application - thus, they go. I know some folks don't like the sleek retro look (mopsa, I can hear those eyeballs rolling from here) but that's what we're going for ... if we're going to make the buck on this place.
