Why I hate Verizon

And technology in general. No really, I hate it. I love it, but I hate it.

I just spent over an hour and a half on the phone with no less than 5 different people at Verizon Online trying to "diagnose" my intermittent connectivity issue. Once the first two figured out I was on a Mac it was time to play "Pass the Apple" and I went from New Jersey to Atlanta to Dallas.

Basically, they have no idea why my DSL modem keeps dropping me and giving me a bad IP every 4 hours. This is what they told me... no shit...

It could be a modem issue. Or it might be a network issue if I saw a lot of Verizon trucks in the neighborhood. Wha? You want me to walk around my block looking for fucking TRUCKS?!? Granted, I could probably use the fresh air but aren't YOU supposed to know these kinds of things? So if I didn't see any trucks, it was probaly a hardware issue and I would need to buy a new modem. That final bit of advice came from the last person I talked to, a very nice gay boy in Dallas. He gave me some shopping tips too - I'm not kidding. He must have thought... Oh the poor lesbian, I bet she wears sensible shoes too...

I have a better idea.. Why don't I call up Time Warner instead?

I'm less than satisfied with the DSL, too, but it somehow accidentally ended up being free for a year, so we'll at least keep it until the contract is up. I never had outage problems with a cable modem like we've had with the DSL.

Earthlink did that to me recently. And I don't fault the tech support guy, he spent over an hour on the phone with me getting me to try different things, checking the results on his end, etc. He said something about the phone company working in my area and so forth. Turns out that Earthlink was doing something (forget what) which was what was causing the problem. Apparently they don't bother to tell their techs when they're working on the system, and when that work is going badly.

BTW, I'm totally squidging over the kittens, and was reminded, when I saw that last one of the kitten in the boot, of the quote about God creating cats so we could have the pleasure of caressing the tiger. I'd have to add that he created kittens so we could have the pleasure of blowing raspberries on their little bellies and cooing, "Its the cootest babykins in the whole wide world!"

I end up helping myself with DSL issues (using www.dslreports.com) more often than that crappy Verizon tech support can help.
