I swear, I can't win.

All week I've been so excited for today. We had cable broadband installed this morning and I love it. It ROCKS. Except for one little thing and I'm trying not to go ballistic.

Despite going over it twice, and very slowly the second time, with the service rep when I put in the order, I just discovered that I only get one (1) IP address. Fuckity fuck fuck. See, I have two computers and an airport connected to the LAN via a little Linksys hub. My DSL modem served up as many dynamic IPs as I wanted. But not so with the cable modem.

The solution? According to Time Warner I have to BUY additional IPs from them to the tune of $9.95 a month. Boo-el shit!

Before I go out and buy this router to replace my current hub, is there anyone out there that will confirm that this will solve my problem? Or recommend an alternate solution? Thanks in advance.

Oh, I can send Rich there to help...but I'd have to remove all sharp objects and any firearms you may have. I have one solution which will make you feel better immediately...

Go over to my house and look at the cluster-fuck which is now called my floor. Four full days of work..and they are going to start from scratch again tomorrow!! I should be so lucky to have IP problems!!!

No answers to that one, I'm afraid, but up here in Canada word of mouth is, avoid anything to do with Time Warner. They were under investigation, on a CBC program about their business practices.

You have a whole Airport connected on one IP, ove a TW cable connection! Ohh Apple Airport. Phew I was thinking I would never fly into PSP again.

Yes, it will work just fine. I have a similar setup here.

We have a cable modem with a linksys router/firewall attached to it. From that I have another hub upstairs and could run a wirless hub from that. Having the router/firewall is a good thing anyway, just for the protection factor...well worth the $60 or so. Just do it. Cable, as you say, does indeed ROCK.

A. I've got an extra one of those routers laying around. When are you coming up? Do you want me to ship it to you?

B. You should be able to use your mac to allow the other computer to use your internet connection.
System Preferences --> Sharing --> Internet Tab
then turn sharing on. Not quite sure of the details as I haven't used it, but a little research might uncover an option - not sure it'll work for ya, but maybe....
