Alien Update
It's like waiting for the other shoe to drop. It's gonna come down, it's just a matter of when... The Alien in My Neighbors Yard has been updated for those of you tracking its progress.
Posted by MJ at July 6, 2003 12:30 PMHoly shit! Is that the plant that smells like rotting corpses when it blooms? Gah!

Posted by: oddgirl at July 6, 2003 05:29 PMOoh...I just had a vague recollection of some trouble my father got into over a tree. I can't remember the details because I was quite young, but I remember there being some huge insurance issue with my neighbor's tree that was going rotten and my dad cut off a few of the larger branches (that would have falled onto HIS house) and when the whole tree fell over (and did crash into the neighbor's house) there was some reason why the insurance didn't pay. Something about how since my dad had taken preventative measures (cutting the limbs) that the whole accident could have been prevented and the insurance didn't cover the cost for all of the damage.
Like I said, I don't remember much of it, but I remember my dad getting sued by our neighbor.
(I'm thinking of this because of the rope thing...it may be worth a call to your insurance agent.)
Sigh...it's sad when people who are just trying to help need to cover their asses, innit?
Posted by: Natalie at July 6, 2003 07:07 PMTwo things:
1. Mayhaps this is the REAL reason to sell?
2. DON'T, whatever you do, DO NOT play the "Fishwrap Free For All" within in hearing distance of that thing. A few good solid thumps on the bass drum and it looks as if that thing is going down.
Thanks for the update...I've been wonderin'...
Posted by: Cyndi at July 7, 2003 08:07 AMIt doesn't smell, yet, but I imagine that once it comes down and the whole thing begins to rot, it could be quite nasty...
O-Double D... It's their phone line, but if it rips the wrong way, I bet it could take out everyones service. So yeah, keep the cell handy chica.
Nat - Sue me for what? I don't think they would have a case. I have a very nice email from them thanking me for setting up the rope and telling me that they would "take care of it" - dated 3 weeks ago. I think they have abused the insurance co. enough such that if they even tried to make a claim, it would be denied anyway. The house is sitting there rotting away. You may recall the flood they had back in April. They haven't done jack to it. I can smell the mold if I'm downwind. The place is a basically a tear down at this point - and I am thisclose to calling the health dept. on them.
And Cyndi? Ha! Too late - We rocked out on Friday night!
Posted by: MJ at July 7, 2003 03:42 PMI landed on your site very randomly, and let me tell you your "alien" pictures made me laugh out loud! Please, oh please, don't remove this link ever! If I am ever having a bad day (happens occasionally, but more often recently) then I'll simply return to the alien page and laugh at its absurdity!
thanks!
Posted by: andrea at July 8, 2003 05:00 PMOn my planet we have a device called an
apostrophe (sic). It allows us to distinguish
between plural and posessive. That way, our
neighbor's yard does not necessarily include
our neighbors. APOSTROPHE. Rock on dood.
