Endless Carnival
I'll try and make this brief.
We all know what today is. While I would like to think it's the grand finale to the three ring circus - trust me it 'aint.
I urge you to VOTE NO on the recall. Who you vote to replace Davis, should the recall go through, I don't really care. There's not a good egg in the bunch. It's going to be the lesser of 135 evils for me...
No matter the outcome (which we probably won't know for days/weeks) this special election sets a very very bad precedent. Yes, consider the concept of a recall a mandate for change but also, know that if the recall goes through, it means anyone with a million bucks can screw up the nations most populous state for 6 months and end up costing the taxpayers over $66 MILLION dollars. That's our money goddamn it. Not to mention that ever since Gore v. Bush, it's a given that there will be lawsuits. How much is that going to cost us? Mark my words. Elections as we knew them are forever changed. I'm voting no on power grabs. I urge you to do the same.
Whatever you decide - just get out there and vote damn it.
Posted by MJ at October 7, 2003 11:23 AMFRESNO, Calif. (AP) -- Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante's father had a little fun at his son's expense while scanning the list of 135 replacement candidates on Tuesday's recall ballot.
"I'm looking for Arnold, where's Arnold?" the elder Cruz Bustamante joked at the polling place in Fresno, where the lieutenant governor, the grandson of Mexican immigrants, lived for many years.
"You want to sleep outside tonight, for the rest of the month?" responded Bustamante's mother, Dominga.
Hey, MJ!
What's your connection with MSU? I've read you blog for the past few months and haven't noticed much of a Michigan slant. Maybe it's the lack of an "About Me" page. (Just playing with ya.)
Hey MJ!
I'm a product of the Great Lakes State. Grew up in Lansing, went to high school outside of TC and spent a brief but character molding time in the UP. Both my parents are (retired) MSU profs. Even though I now live in the fucked up state of California, I still bleed green. And you? Are you a Spartan fan?
Tuned in too late to agree. The most positive outcome of this whole thing is that we should all recognize how important it is to live a full and enjoyable life TODAY. The future holds many concerns for me, so to hell with it. Have fun, enjoy life and choose where you want to direct your precious energy. Wall Street, DC and Sacramento only reinforce the theory that pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered.
