Weekend Report

I had a pretty quiet weekend actually. Well, except for the requisite Friday Night Party Train. This time we were joined by Oddgirl and her girl. I think they enjoyed themselves - they definitely went the distance with us!

We started out at Lyons English Grill/Pub which, like Banducci's, is a bit of a time warp. We commandeered the entire cocktail lounge by amassing 14 low red vinyl club chairs on wheels around 3 tiny cocktail tables. I think the size of our group intimidated the waitress. Poor thing. She had to write everything down. Itchyrae and MJS are back from their world tour 2003 and it was great to see them. They were sorely missed.

No evening at Lyons would be complete without a visit from Marvyn the Magician. Seeing we had some fresh meat at the table he swooped and did his schtick. Which in all fairness is pretty good. Oddgirl and her girl, despite looking a wee bit frightened at first, got into the act and Erb fell prey to Marvyns disappearing money trick, which he pockets as his tip.

From Lyons we made a swing through The Erbs place for a drink then we went on to Spikes for dinner.

Dinner (if you could call it that) was a major disappointment. Spikes recently opened up where Coffee Dot Com (yes that's what it was called) used to be. Robt. had lunch there and apparently is was pretty good. Dinner on the other hand... Lord. That was the worst meal I'd had in some time. The "menu" was a scribbled on piece of paper not-so fresh off the inkjet and the entree selection was extremely limited.

The waiter (a great guy we know from another restaurant) recommended that I try the "maple" dressing for my salad but after tasting it, I called him over and whispered in his ear "Antonio, this is quite possibly the most vile thing on the planet... please remove my plate." which he did with a smile and an apology.

Seeing as I'm on Atkins at the moment, I opted for the meatloaf, which it turns out was actually venison meatloaf. I think mine still had his antlers. Apparently I was wrong about the dressing. Venison meatloaf is definitely the most vile thing on the planet.

Thank god for the company and the drinks! Despite everyone having a disappointing dining experience we had a great time as always.

The rest of my weekend was spent on the couch. My back is killing me. My sciatica is acting up again. Damn, this means I'm going to have to miss cheerleading practice again.

I must protest. I tasted your maple dressing, and yes, it was awful... but the Duck Confit was without question, the most disgusting preparation of this dish ever attempted. The only thing more disgusting was that I ate it.(drink much?)
cheers

Coyote - or as I prefer it ... kai-Yo-tay ... Wlm and I dubbed it the "Road Kill Cafe" today. I think my "venison" was scraped off the hood of an F150 in Big Bear few weeks ago. And I'm guessing you had a Mallard off the golf course. Fore! Thud.

Skirt? What is this "skirt" you speak of?

Mmm. Meatloaf.

Your cheerleading skirt of course! You missed cheer practice *again*.

Mopsie:

Here's the recipe for Duck Conflict alla Spike

1 Starved golf course duck
4 cups tepid dishwater
Place duck in tepid dishwater and let stand over-night.
Place duck on wilted salad greens and serve to a drunk after you've tried to serve him a dinner salad. Receive tip.
