Hunh.. You don't say?

Thelma has been in the shop waiting for her new heart .. er, carburetor. It was only supposed to take a week but unfortunately we've now passed the two week mark. As I mentioned the other day, there are thousands.. THOUSANDS! of lesbians coming to town this weekend - and my car is KEY to my weekends um, endeavors.

So I paid my mechanic an unexpected visit this morning and asked him when he thought she would be ready. He said "I'll call right now and find out when the carb is due in and uh, oh - there's just one small problem...

"What would that be?"

"I lost the keys..." He said sheepishly.

I gave him the fake smile and Grrreat nod.

So I dropped off the spare set of keys an hour later and wouldn't you know it? The carb just arrived and Thelma will be ready tomorrow! Oh happy day!

Now I've been accused of being a bit suspicious and skeptical before but c'mon... You just KNOW that they've had that carb there for a week but they've been desperately looking for the keys rather than call me and admit to losing them... The timing is just a little too perfect. These guys have never screwed me before and to their benefit, this isn't really a screwing - it's more an embarrassment than anything else. But I don't like it when he's not totally straight with me.

Oh well, fuck it, what do I care? I'll have my convertible fluffed and buffed just in the nick of time - WHEW!

A carb should take no more than a day in the shop - or did they send your old one off for a rebuild? Did he do other things? If not - I would ask for the old carb back - assuming there is no core charge.

Either way - have fun cruzin! Thelma sure looks great.

I'd get an alarm installed in Thelma... just in case someone in the shop has the keys and is waiting to drive off in her with her new carb.

And -- always ask for the old parts when it's an expensive repair.

Keith - Car Quest said they had a new one in stock (thus my email to you) but it turns out there wasn't one in the warehouse. That took a few days to sort out. So then instead we decided to do a swap - send in my old carb for a rebuilt one - that's where time gets fuzzy. I really do think they honestly lost the keys and they are just pulling a stall maneuver on me. I drive by the shop every day and she hasn't moved for over a week.

Chari - I'll probably just get a new Club™ for her. She was stolen at least once before (a few months before I bought her) and she's not hard to find. She's the only lime green 68 galaxie convertible in the area :) Besides, after this mishap, the shop would be the first place the cops would go if she were ever stolen again. Being a small town, police here actually have time to investigate stolen cars.
