Weekend Report:
Friday Night Report:
Went over to Itchyrae's and MJS's for a couple drinks, and to catch up. I hadn't seen them in a few weeks and it was great to just hang out.
Saturday Night Report:
Sick kitty supervision, then our next door neighbor had us over for a few beers. Quiet night.
All this low-key stuff was great, but there was also a huge dyke party going on in town and I wanted to play!
I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing that I didn't really notice until this weekend that other than my wife, I have absolutely no local lesbian friends. None. Nada. Some have moved away (J&L). Others have drifted off never to be heard from again (V&D), and some even though they "live" here, are just never in town long enough to really be considered local (S&W). All of my good friends are guys. Every single one. Okay, well there's my FedEx babe, but besides flirting at the door, we're not really that close...
There's been a lot of talk recently about how Palm Springs has the highest percentage of same sex households - more than SF, more than WeHo. But they're ALL GUYS! You can't throw a stick in this town without hitting a gay guy! But the dykes? Hello... hello... hello... It's like a ghost town.
Not this weekend of course. This weekend was Dinah Shore Lesbian Extravaganza. In years past, I have always had a posse of my SF gal pals to go prowling around the parties with... but this year no one I know made the trek to PS.
So yesterday I sucked it up and headed over to the Wyndham pool party by myself determined to have the same fun of years past but not look like a loser idiot without any friends.
Guess what? It worked! Not only did I have a great time lounging in the sun, but I met some fun party babes to hang and cruise with, ran into a couple of girls that got me drunk and took advantage of me last fall, found a couple of my male lesbian friends (yes, they let boys in), took in some of the entertainment and all in all had an awesome time - without looking like an idiot!
Well, except for that whole Jello shot incident...
Posted by MJ at March 29, 2004 07:42 AMIt's true. When I moved here, I simply couldn't believe my eyes. Too bad the majority of them are over 45, though. [Sigh.]
