Fire on the Mountain
I noticed a small fire burning on the other side of the mountain this morning (turns out it's in the Snow Creek/Cabazon area). All day long the tankers have been buzzing over the house. It's now filled the North End with smoke that is both beautiful and eerie.
Posted by MJ at July 12, 2004 05:04 PMHey MJ, where exactly was this snap taken? Yer house looks like my house...
Could you be in the rapidly upscaling El Ranch Vista Estates?
Wow, that's an amazing picture! Kinda surreal looking.
Love your post title, btw. I was just listening to the Scarlet Begonias/Fire on the Mountain track today. :) I also had a Dead inspired blog title today.
Hope the fire's all under control.
Posted by: jen at July 12, 2004 07:48 PMHowdy neighbor!
It was the power lines that gave it away right?
The last PS hold outs in an antiquated system commonly known as the above ground grid. I swear if it didn't mean certain death (and severing my cable modem line), I'd climb up there and hack those fuckers down myself.
Jen, glad you like that mix! I don't know how contained the fire is, but it's a ways off before I start packing anything. When we had the major So. Cal. fires last fall the evening sky looked like that for a week. I guess that's why I find this eerie. Fire season in here... unlike earthquake season, which is always here.
